The Youth and Junior Choirs

Youth and Junior Choir logoThe Junior Choir was formed by Lindsay Marnoch,one-time assistant minister and taken over by Mabel Macdonald in 1987. Jeanette Lowrie took charge in 1990. In1991 the Youth Choir was formed and the choirs adopted their logo and uniform blue sweatshirt. Jeanette had the able support of two pianists. She has now retired but the Choirs continue

As well as participating regularly in morning and other special Church services, the choirs visit local nursing homes and sheltered housing developments to entertain the residents. The Junior Choir makes monthly visits to Strachan House Nursing Home to join residents in a service taken by our Minister, the Rev Alex Douglas.

This year the choirs, supported by adult "friends", presented "Oliver" for the second time. Other main productions, performed in alternate years, include "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (concert version), "Viva Mexico", "The Boyfriend", "The Sound of Music", "Annie" and "Annie Get Your Gun". Smaller projects include "Christmas Jazz", "Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo", "Jerusalem Joy", "Cinemagic", a couple of fund-raising music marathons and "The Easter Story" performed in Church earlier this year. From these the choirs have made generous donations to a variety of charities as well as making contributions to Church and choir funds. For example a donation of £3000 to the roof and stonework appeal following the success of JOSEPH.

The Choirs continue under their new leader.

Children who enjoy singing will be made very welcome.
