Fresh Start

Fresh Start isan Edinburgh Churches' Charity that helps People who have been homeless get established in their new home. We provide Starter Packs of essential household goods, cookers and carpets to over 2000 households; we offer social and practical support in the form of painting services, cooking classes and an allotment; and we run a training initiative for unemployed people to become job-ready. Our work's aim is that people maintain their tenancy and overcome issues which they may have regarding their health and well-being.

At St Columba's, every Friday between 10am and 12noon there is a volunteer on duty (usually in the large hall) to receive items of bed linen, towels, curtains, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, cleaning materials and also small electrical appliances that are in working order (no TVs or heaters).

Many of our congregation members are active in the teams working in the practical support mentioned above
